Increased Benefits for WIC Families are extended through September 2022
On March 15, 2022, President Biden signed the $1.5 trillion omnibus agreement into law, extending increased fruit and vegetable WIC benefits through September 30, 2022. This bill allocates $6 billion of funds to WIC and allows the fruit and vegetable benefits to continue at the current amounts.
This WIC benefit increase originally went into effect in June 2021. Before the increase, WIC participants received $9 for each child and $11 for each enrolled adult to spend on fruits and vegetables, along with the rest of their WIC food package. On November 2, 2021, Congress struck a bipartisan agreement to extend the increased fruit and vegetable WIC benefits through March 31, 2022. The increase in fruit and vegetable benefits aligns the WIC food package with expert dietary recommendations.
WIC participants will see the increased amounts on the WIC app soon.
Monthly Vegetable & Fruit Benefits:
$24 each month for children ages 1-4
$43 each month for pregnant and postpartum participants
