About WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program 2023

WIC families in California can get checks worth $30 (three checks worth $10 each) while supplies last to buy fruits and vegetables at WIC-certified farmers markets (limit one booklet per family per year). PHFE WIC has 23,000 checks to give out this year! WIC Farmers Market Program is an annual program funded by USDA to support local farmers while helping families enjoy more fresh seasonal fruits and veggies.

Here’s how it works this summer:

  1. Reserve your checks online
  2. Pick them up at the farmers market
  3. Spend them at the market

The WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program will run for a limited time until the checks are gone! Don’t miss out on your free produce this summer.

FAQs

No. Farmers market checks will only be given out at the farmers markets to PHFE WIC participants. See a list of markets WIC will be at this summer below.

WIC farmers market checks can be used to purchase fresh fruit, fresh vegetables and cut edible herbs. They cannot be used to purchase honey, nuts, eggs, meat, flowers, baked goods, dried fruit, plants or non-food items.

No! If you spend less than $10 with one farmer, you will not get cash back. Each check can only be spent at one farmer’s stand. You can’t split one $10 check between different farmers.

If the fruits and vegetables you buy with your farmers’ market checks cost more than the value of the check, you may use other forms of payment to cover the difference. Other forms of payment include your CalFresh EBT card or cash.

Shop with your WIC farmers market checks at an approved market. Use this market finder to find more markets near you.

Checks expire on November 30, 2023! We highly encourage spending your checks the same day you pick them up. Enjoy all of the produce the summer season has to offer!
